Together with Portland Weymouth is to be the host of the sailing events of the 2012 Olympic games. The town is populated by around 53,000 but more than 300,000 visitors arrive in the town during Carnival week in August.
The town is expecting a bumper year this year due to the long range weather forecast that is suggesting we are going to have a hot summer and the weakness of the British pound which means Britain is again an attractive destination for foreign visitors and British tourists who loose out to the strength of other currencies. The town boasts a beautiful beach with very fine sand, one of the attractions is the "Sand Man" http://www.sculpturesinsand.com/ who has made some fantastical sand sculptures, including a life size sculpture of a new Mini, a sand hotel, harry potter and many many more.
The town has numerous places to stay, including hotels, bed and breakfast, self catering caravans, touring caravan parks, and hostels. Weymouth had also many tourist attractions, including the Sea Life Centre, a mini golf centre, go kart's, and more. There is a 9 screen cinema, 10 pin bowling, and the pavilion which puts on various shows and events all year round.
One of my favourite things to do in Weymouth during the summer is get an Ice cream from Rossi's Ice Cream Parlour, with the art Deco frontage and delicious hand made ice cream. I always take a trip into one of the amusement arcades to play the 2p machines.
